Since the collapse of the Technate in CWII, the group has splintered off into several autonomous units, each with their own leadership and goals. One of the more military of the groups, the Olduvai Cliff Technate, believes that the end of industrialized civilization is fast approaching. Unlike other factions of the Technate, which favor reform or secession, OCT calls for violent revolution, and devote the majority of their research and development into weapons technology.
Cheif among their projects is the Multilayered Metacircuit Array, codenamed Casimir.
Decades ahead of its time, the Casimir Array uses sophisticated nanotechnology and metamaterials to form itself into a multilayered and weaved 'fabric' of circuitry capable of an amazing number of macroscale feats by utilizing synergistic combinations of effects on a quantum scale.
These are controlled neurally by a wearer, the Casimir Operator, who is specially prepared to wear Casimir by having an interface metacircuit actually tattooed over their body. Thus, the Operator can send out a signal from their own nervous system to Casimir, and Casimir will respond by enveloping the Operator. It should be explained that Casimir's nanoscale makeup allows it to exist in three essential forms. There is the Arrayed Form, which is it's operating configuration, and resembles a full bodysuit of smooth white material with a slightly iridescent quality that becomes a glow when in use. Then there is the Transitional Form, which is an amorphous liquid-like form wherein Casimir can manipulate intself into one of it's polar forms. The last form is the Battery Form. In this form, Casimir is packed very densely into a compact arrangement worn on the Operator's body in the form of what appears to be a white alloy bracelet.
In the Battery Form, the only functions Casimir can perform are to assume the Transitional Form and to gather and store ambient zero-point energy for later use.
When fully arrayed, there are a multitude of different functions that Casimir can make use of, all fueled by a combination of ambient zero-point energy and stored zero-point energy. In dire emergencies, Casimir can make use of energy drained from the Operator, though this is very dangerous.
While it is said that Casimir is neurally controlled by the Interface of the Operator, in truth the Interface allows Casimir to use the Operator's nervous system as an extension of its own circuitry, melding the Operator with the Array and, in effect, establishing a separate intelligence entirely. Not that Casimir has a separate intelligence of its own that supercedes the Operator's, rather it's more accurate to say that Casimir expands upon the Operator's intelligence to the point that they may be considered a new intelligence entirely.
The full limits of Casimir are undocumented, but are known to include at these (which will be expanded upon at length in further entries).
Enhanced Sensory Input, including 'seeing' in various spectrums and compiling the data within the brain of the Operator and 360 degree vision from any point on Casimir.
Communication with any electronic system that can be wirelessly accessed directly or through an intermediary. This includes satellites and almost any computer connected to the internet.
Camoflaging abilities allow Casimir to become almost invisible by bending light around itself.
Protective measures like the ability to bend matter around itself, in almost the same manner as it does with light. In this case, the energy neccessary for such a feat is supplied largely by the object itself, and its kinetic energy, making it far easier to avoid a bullet than a slash from a knife. The metamaterial itself exhibits a Non-Newtonian resistance to being deformed. In the case of any circuitry being damaged by an attack that Casimir could not deflect or absorb, it will assume a Semi-Transistional Form and repair itself. The limit of this self-repair is, quite simply, the amount of metamaterial to go around. New material can be constructed by Casimir itself over time to replace destroyed material, but this is a slow process.
Casimir is capable of levitation, and can use this to hover and maintain aerial position relative to the Earth, negating any other forces acting upon it. Casimir is also capable of very high speed flight, through subconcious control and satellite assisted route planning, but this drains the ZPE stores considerably.
Offensively, Casimir has been seen to have a few options.
In close combat, Casimir usually relies on its ability to augment the Operator's strength and speed beyond human limits, in conjuction with being able to project Pulsed Energy Projectiles at short to medium range. These are non-lethal plasma explosions, but the limiting protocols can be overridden if the life of the Operator is under a threat that Casimir can not fight against.
For long-range, the left arm and hand of Casimir can function as a very compact and high power Phased Array Laser, the exact capabilities of which are unknown. This attack is very energy intensive, and will most likely drain Casimir's stores of energy nearly dry.
Many other capabilities of Casimir are sure to surface in the future, but OCT is trying to keep its secret weapon very hush hush for the time being.
